영국의 크리스티나 로제티(Christina Rossetti)의 시 ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ (1872년 출판)를 바탕으로 구스타프 홀스트, 헤롤드 다케 등이 곡을 붙인 것이 원곡이며, 이 버전은 헤롤드 다케의 곡을 바탕으로 제이콥 콜리어가 아카펠라로 편곡한 버전이다.

In the bleak mid-winter
황량한 한겨울에

Frosty wind made moan;
